At the Plaza de la Constitución along thousands of people |
A few days ago, a group of citizens call for a demonstration to reject the corruption in the central government, specially after recent news about a case in customs and the tax collectors. In the afternoon of April 25th, it was my plan to go alone, however over lunch I invited Jose Andres to come with me. In the beginning he was reluctant to go, a little fearful of what could happen. Fear that maybe was fueled by movies and video games. Anyhow after talking about why participating was important, he agreed on coming with me. Monica drove us near by and we walked with the crowd towards the Plaza de la Constitución (Central Square). It was a peaceful and crowded protest, he learned about civic participation, creativity in the manifestation and diversity of political and socioeconomic backgrounds in those joined in a common cause. After a couple of hours we walked out and returned home.
Near the end of the game. guess who is not winning? |
Once we arrived home, he invited me to play Bancopoly (a local version of Monopoly). Despite having a strong headache it was my chance to be with him and show some gratitude for having come earlier with me. We had a blast of a time. His strategy; to have the most expensive properties to collect big buck rents, mine; to take a whole wing of the board to make it impossible to go around without paying. We laugh, cheated, begged, won, lost, you name it. All the emotions in a few hours together. (check Luis C.K. clip bellow, it says it better than me)
Long gone are the days we went to the park to teach him how to walk, now he walks with the crowds. Long gone are the days where the strategy was how to feed him veggies, now it is how to win the game. Soon, he will be the one lending a hand to me. The morale of the story, my boy is a teen, in the process of becoming responsible man.
